BFHS has run out of room. Actually, we have been very short on space for years. It is time to build a new shelter to take care of the burgeoning population of animals needing a place to call a temporary home. We need more room for other animal welfare activities as well, such as Spay-Neuter, obedience training, meet & greet, and so on. Log in often for more news of our campaign to raise funds for a new Benton Franklin Humane Society shelter.
The current shelter at 8620 W. Gage in Kennewick is only about 3700 square feet and can hold no more than 40 animals. If you've ever stopped by this shelter, you can understand. If not, see the photos of the current facility to see why we need this campaign.
The new shelter, designed by local architect Terry Thornhill, will hold over 120 animals, three times that of the current shelter. Dog pens will be cleanable from outside the public viewing area, allowing the shelter to be open during a full business day.
