Pet Friendly Landlords

"Moving" and "landlord won't allow" are among the top reasons pet owners give when turning their pets over to the animal shelters.  The Benton-Franklin Humane Society is putting together a program to help renters with pets find housing that will accommodate them.

The Pet Friendly Landlord Program is designed to help rental managers develop effective pet keeping guidelines for their renters so that the goal of a pet friendly environment can be achieved.  It is also designed to help renters become responsible pet owners.

Property Managers are always welcomed to join the Pet Friendly Landlord Program and we encourage all to do so.  They will receive information on how to make a pet friendly policy on their property and learn how having pets on site can be a benefit to managers and renters. Renters are more than welcome to contact the Benton Franklin Humane Society to help develop a resume for their pets.  This would include past rental references, references on the animal, rabies certificate, vet approval, obedience training, and any other perks.  It could also include the plan of how to dispose of waste and how often the animal will be exercised in the rental unit.

The Pet resume has proven to be effective and a swaying tool to landlords who are unsure of the animal.  A sample pet resume is available online; however, if you would like a pet resume made specifically for your pet please contact the Benton Franklin Humane Society by email.
